Contact Lenses

Contact Lenses

More than 3 million people in the UK wear contact lenses, many more could. Contact lenses are constantly improving and can now provide a high standard of vision for almost all prescriptions; including long and short-sight, astigmatism and even if you need a bifocal or varifocal correction.

As we are an independent practice, we have access to all contact lens brands plus specialist lenses. This means that even if you have been unsuccessful in the past, or told that you cannot wear contact lenses, it is worth contacting us for an opinion. We are particularly good at teaching nervous patients who range from 6 to 86 years old.

Initial Fitting

During the contact lens fitting, your optometrist will discuss your needs and expectations. They will then thoroughly examine the front of your eyes and measure the curvature of the front surface. Trial lenses will be put in your eyes to assess their fit and your vision.

Once suitable lenses have been found, you will be taught how to put the contact lenses in and out of your eyes and how to look after them. Many people manage this at their first visit, but some may wish to spend more time learning. Once you are successfully wearing lenses we will see you regularly for follow up appointments to examine eye health and re-assess your visual needs.

EyeSense

99% of our contact lens patients join EyeSense. This offers complete eye care to a much higher standard than routine sight tests, plus contact lenses that are guaranteed to be the best value. Our patients tell us they like spreading the cost of their contact lenses and professional fees with a monthly direct debit fee. Also that they know they are receiving the highest standard of health care and products. The lenses and solutions are generally suitable for home delivery, which adds to the convenience.

Specialist

In addition to fitting contact lenses to help you see more clearly, we fit specialist lenses to people with colour vision problems that can help them perceive colours better. Television programmes such as “Casualty” and “Teachers” have also used our services to fit actors with lenses to simulate eye-turns, injuries and even ones that glow in the dark. We often fit patients deemed too complicated by large optical corporations and happily see patients who’ve previously only been assessed in eye hospitals. Two of our optometrists have specialist qualifications in contact lens fitting and all have a background in specialist centres.
