Making a Difference with Cabot District Scouts
Leading Campfires and Kindness: Volunteering with Cabot District Scouts

Outside her role on our communications team, Alex dedicates her free time to Cabot District Scouts. She wears two hats there: one as a Programme & Event Leader, and another as a Beaver Team Leader at the 90th Scout Group. In early February, Alex brought over 200 Beaver Scouts (aged 6 to 8) together for a charity campfire event at Woodhouse Activity Centre. Spanning two nights, the event was packed with fun, from learning both traditional and modern campfire songs to roasting marshmallows under the stars.
“It was a brilliant opportunity for the Beavers to experience the magic of the woods while doing something meaningful,” - Alex.
Giving Back: Raising Funds for Bristol Children’s Hospital
That chilly February night was about more than just fun. The campfire raised £304 for the Bristol Children’s Hospital - a proud result for a relatively small event.
“It’s heart-warming to see kids giving back to other children who need a little extra support.” - Alex
Highlight of the Year: Beavers' 5km Walk for Children in Need
While the campfire was a success, Alex’s proudest moment came last October. She helped organise a 5km charity walk around Bristol Harbour, where Beavers walked in support of BBC Children in Need. The result? A staggering £3,800 raised - the biggest fundraising moment in Alex’s time with Cabot District Scouts.
“It was a powerful reminder of what young people can achieve when given the chance,” Alex shares.
