Bird eyewear
Bird was founded in Devon in 2017 by three brothers, Ed, Paul and Lawrence. They wanted to prove that eyewear could look good and do good at the same time. Today Bird is the UK's leading sustainable eyewear brand. It's also the highest scoring B Corp anywhere in the global eyewear industry.
What makes Bird so different?
Most frames are made from oil-based plastic that ends up in landfill. Bird takes a different path. Every frame is designed to be repaired, recycled or composted rather than thrown away. Bird isn't chasing fast fashion trends either. Its designs are made to last, so a style you love today will still be around next year.
What materials do they use?
Bird's own material, Plantix, is a plant-based bio-acetate. It's light, flexible and fully compostable under the right conditions. Alongside Plantix, Bird uses FSC-certified wood and bamboo. It also uses recycled aluminium and steel, reclaimed from other industries rather than newly mined. Every material is chosen to cut carbon and cut waste, without cutting back on comfort or style.
Does doing good mean giving something up?
Not with Bird. The brand won Frame of the Year at the Optician Awards just sixteen months after launching, proof that sustainable design holds its own against anyone. Every pair sold also funds a solar light for a family in Zambia or Malawi through Bird's Share Your Sun partnership with SolarAid. Choose Bird and you get a beautifully made frame with a genuinely good story behind it.
